Taking the day off – Lilian Darcy

Drip, drip, drip goes my nose. Yes, I have a cold.

I was going to take today off anyhow, as I’ve spent the last week running around in a flap with far too much on. I was going to catch up on cleaning and tidying my house, doing laundry, running errands both virtual (i.e. on computer) and real. I was looking forward to it, because there is something very satisfying about getting back on top of that kind of stuff when it’s all going a little ragged around the edges.

But my day off has been hijacked by my nose and my aching bones, and all that zesty crossing off of items on To Do lists sounds a whole lot less appealing.

If you were me, what would you do? Soldier on with the chores? Or light the wood-stove (it’s winter here) and sit in front of it with a book and a hot drink?

(You do know there’s only one answer I want to hear on this, don’t you?)

    I’d take the day or more off, sit by the fire and read. It is the only thing that can make you feel better. My husband had hip replacement surgery on June 3rd. I barely have time to read a cereal box let alone anything else. Please read enough for both of us.

  2. I’m sorry you’re sick, Lilian. You’re right. There is only one answer. Take the day (or several) off and take care of yourself. I hope you feel better in record time.

    Lilian, the cold is your body’s way of telling you that you need to take time off to rest, relax and care for yourself. Listen to it! ;)
