School’s Out…for Summer – WINNER

Susan Frank–Email me at stacyconnelly@cox.net and I will send you out your gift card! Thanks to all for posting!

I have to admit, it’s been many years for me since summer signaled the end of the school year. But I still remember the anticipation and a touch of sorrow to see the year end. I went to school about 45 minutes from where I lived, and many of my friends lived just as far in the opposite direction, so it was likely that I wouldn’t see them until the next fall. summer

I recall how the excitement of summer break quickly turned to boredom as it seemed I had nothing to do on those long endless days… How I wish I had more of those nothing-to-do days now! :) But I always enjoyed family vacations and time spent swimming in our pool and going to my brother’s summer league baseball games.

As an adult, summer still means things to look forward to. Romance Writer’s of America’s national conference is always in the summer. It’s in San Antonio this year. I’ve never been there, and I’m looking forward to it.

What about you? What are you looking forward to this summer? Leave a comment, and I’ll draw a winner of a $10 gift card.

No vacation this year, but a summer of concerts

    6/14 Elton John
    7/13 American Idol Tour
    7/16 O.A.R and Phillip Phillips
7/23 Fall Out Boy and Paramore
9/27 and 9/28 One Direction – yes I got lawn seats for $35.00 for both nights. My husband wants me to sell the Sunday tickets and make some money!

    • Tammy–

I used to go to concerts all the time; it’s been a while for me, so good for you for making plans to go! And it sounds like you’ll be going to some good ones!

  2. Susan Frank says:

First real vacation in seven years :-)

DH and I are going to Scotland, Ireland and Germany! While in Scotland I will get to see some of the places in the Outlander books, plus a few of the places where they’re filming the series. I am just a **little** bit excited!

    • Susan–

Wow! What a great trip! I was able to go to Italy and Germany years ago, but missed out on seeing England, Ireland and Scotland… Maybe someday!

  3. Dyan says:

Summer means traveling to Nationals with my daughter each year. I am excited for my first trip to California this year. I am especially excited to spend July 4th in San Francisco.

    • Dyan–

I’ve been to San Francisco a couple of times. It will always hold good memories for me because it’s the first trip my best friend and I went on together and we had a blast!

  4. Sandi in OH says:

My husband is having hip replacement surgery next Tuesday. I can’t tell you how I’m looking forward to that since he is pretty much a basket case now. In August we are leaving for a three month RV trip to the West Coast.

    • Sandi–

My dad had hip replacement a few years ago and bounced back, I thought, very quickly. Hope your husband has a speedy recovery and that you enjoy your road trip!

  5. Stacy! Your childhood summers sound idyllic. I’m looking forward to a family trip to my childhood home in the Sierras. XOXO!

  6. Joanna Sims says:

    Three letters: RWA! Can’t wait…

  7. bn100 says:

    going to the beach

    • I love the beach, too. San Diego is only about 5 hours away, and that’s always our fall back location when my friends and I can’t decide where else to go!

  8. I’m looking forward to San Antonio, too, Stacy. Looking forward to meeting many SE authors.

  9. Anita H. says:

I’m looking forward to relaxing and maybe, just maybe, finally getting my house cleaned up a bit and rid of some garbage that’s been piling up :P

  10. Amy Woods says:

    Hi Stacy,

I miss those childhood summers with days of nothing to do. I grew up with a brother and two stepsisters so our boredom usually led to mischief—sneaking into the pool at the apartment complex nearby and daring each other to eat/drink terrible (but not poisonous!) random concoctions we mixed up from the pantry and fridge. If our parents had known… :-)

As far as now, my husband and I are spending 2 weeks in York, Maine, and I’m so looking forward to getting away from the Texas heat this summer.

    Amy

    • Amy–

Too funny about the random concoctions! My best friend in the neighborhood and I used to do that, too!

And Maine! I’ve never been to that part of the country. So want to go… I think it’s partly because of all those Murder She Wrote episodes I watched as a kid.

  11. Leanna says:

Summer in Texas is hot so I have to take the dogs out for walks early but I love the heat.

    • Leanna–

I’m kind of the same way with the heat. I think I’d rather be warm than cold. Right now, I’m still taking the dogs just as the sun goes down, but I might have to switch to early mornings soon.

  12. June Gorgonio says:

I hope to do a lot of reading and to tile my kitchen!

  13. Dawn Medlock says:

    Spending time with the grandkids.

  14. Ada says:

No vacations for me this year but I’m looking forward to spending more time with my friends. We have a few get togethers already planned and it’s been a while since me and my girlfriends really hung out! It’ll be nice to catch up!

  15. Amanda Ward says:

Im looking forward to our holiday in Haworth Yorkshire, home of the Bronte sisters. Hopefully the warmer weather will be upon us and spending time as a family including our tradition of fish and chips on the beach!
