Do you remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about all those little things that keep filtering their way down to the bottom of our To Do lists? Things like filing and cleaning the tile-grouting (hm, I may not have mentioned that one, but I probably should have) and… medical appointments?
Do you remember how you all urged me to go have that routine mammogram I was due for?
Well, it’s lucky I did – and thank you so much for the urgings – because turns out there’s something there. It’s small, and it’s been caught very early thanks to the mammogram, but the doctor thinks it’s “ninety percent” likely to be malignant and they’ve done a biopsy and we find out for sure tomorrow. I’m feeling okay about it – quite surprisingly okay, really – because the outlook for treatment is very positive, but of course there’s a part of me that wants to know just exactly what we’ll be dealing with. I say “we” here, because my husband’s coming to the appointment with me, and I’m going to be really glad of his company. At the moment, I think this whole thing is worrying him more than it’s worrying me. He brought home a beautiful bunch of flowers after I’d had the biopsy, and has been spoiling me in all sorts of ways.
So this is a short blog today, just to do some urging right back at you. If you’ve been putting off a mammogram or a pap smear or any of that stuff, pick up the phone and make an appointment. This time last week, I had no idea that a problem might show up on the mammogram. I had the scan a couple of weeks ago and didn’t give it another thought until the phone rang Wednesday afternoon.
Next time I blog, I’ll let you know how tomorrow’s appointment went.
