Best Vacation Ever! Felicia Ciaudelli Wins!

Thank you to everyone who participated!  I enjoyed hearing about everyone’s best vacations, as well as dream vacations to come!  Felicia C. – please email me at jsimsromance@live.com with your preferred email address for the GC!

Until next time! -Joanna Sims

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever had?  Mine was a trip to San Diego.  Because of our schedules, my husband and I typically take combination “business and pleasure” trips.  When I found out about a professional convention in San Diego, we decided it was time for a belated honeymoon.  We sprung for first class tickets and vowed to have the best trip ever!  And, we did…

We stayed in a hotel with a downtown view.  We ordered ridiculously expensive room service and ate in bed.  We rented a jazzy Camaro for joy rides, rode on the trolley for fun, toured the S.S. Midway Naval Museum, and kissed in front of the “Unconditional Surrender” sculpture at the San Diego waterfront.

I was fortunate to marry my best friend, so we usually have a good time wherever we go.  But, this trip to San Diego was something special. It was truly the best trip I’ve ever had.  We fell in love with San Diego and plan on retiring there when the time is right.  And, this magical trip inspired the setting for my next Special Edition title: THE ONE HE’S BEEN LOOKING FOR.

So…where did you go for your best vacation ever?  Do you have a dream vacation destination?  Leave a comment and I’ll pick a winner Monday (1/13/14) for a $10 GC!  And I invite you to stop by for a visit at www.joannasimsromance.com !

We travel often since we are retired. I always pack my kindle first. One of our best vacations was traveling to some of the New England states. the last trip there we visited Boston, Plymouth, and Salem. We walked the Freedom Trail, visited Paul Revere’s home, the USS Constitution, and JFK’s Museum. We toured all of Plymouth (my husband is a descendant of Thomas Rogers). the trip before we visited New Haven CT. My g-whatever grandfather, John Brockett, surveyed the nine squares in New Haven.

      Hi Sandy,

Thank you for your comment! I would love to travel to some of the New England states with my husband. It sounds like you (and your husband) have a rich family history. And, I think It’s wonderful that you have the opportunity to travel often now that you are retired.

      Happy 2014!

My best vacation ever was an African safari in 2004. I went to Chobe National Park in Botswana and to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Both were awesome! There is nothing like seeing th animals in the wild.

I am hoping to go to France this year for my vacation.

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Lori,

Thank you for your comment! I think going on an African safari would be an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. There are so many animals I would like to see while on safari: tigers, elephants, zebras. It must have been an extraordinary trip.

      Happy 2014!

  3. Hey Joanna!

Sounds like a perfect trip. And reminds me of the time RWA was in New Orleans and my husband came and joined me there after. We stayed in the Garden District for five days–eating at wonderful restaurants, touring atmospheric grave yards and visiting Ann Rice’s house. It was fabulous!

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Christine!

Thank you for adding to the discussion! I love New Orleans! My mom, who loved staying up late and listening to live jazz, took me there when I was in my twenties. We had the best time. We even stopped by a top-notch drag show…Mom was a hoot!

I hope I get to meet you in person at the San Antonio RWA!

  4. What a romantic vacation, Joanna! I have friends who took early retirement in Coronado right there in the San Diego area. They love it!
My favorite vacation remains the trip that my husband and I took to Paris. It was a dream come true. Like you, I came away with a book. I guess that’s just how writers work. All the world is a potential story. Looking forward to reading your book!

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Nancy!

Thank you for sharing your favorite vacation with me! I think Paris must be such a romantic, inspiring place to visit (especially for a romance author). Hopefully, I’ll get to see you at the next RWA and you can tell me all about the trip in person!

      Happy 2014!

I think that my favorite vacation was back in 1977 (the summer before I started 9th grade) when my mom and I, along with a friend of moms, spent a week at a place in Ocean City NJ – it was so much fun – it cost a whopping $100.00 to rent the house for the week – one of my favorite parts was getting the latest Nancy Drew book, The Strange Message in the Parchment at Atlantic Books on The Boardwalk – LOL

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Felicia!

Thank you for your post! What I think is really cool about your favorite trip is the fact that it was a vacation with your mom in 1977! How wonderful to have those memories! My favorite family vacation from my childhood was a trip to Montana. Unforgettable!

I wish you all the best in 2014!

  6. Joanna Sims says:

    Hi Amy!

I appreciate the post! Good work getting on that ski lift! On our way to Gatlinburg, we stopped off at an old theme park. You had to ride a ski lift up to the top of the mountain to get there. I road a wooden roller coaster built on the side of the mountain and on one turn, it looked like you were going to shoot right of the edge! A total blast!

    Happy 2014!

  7. Jane Squires says:

My best vacation was this last June. I got all our family together in Ohio. All cousins met each other. It was a wonderful time together. Went to aquarium and a traders center.

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Jane!

It must be wonderful to have a close relationship with your extended family! I’ve braved a few Ohio winters in Columbus and in Cleveland. Even though the winters can be really cold, I’ve always found that Ohioans are warm-hearted people all year round. Thank you for your post!

      Happy 2014!

  8. C-Jay M says:

I can’t think of just one. Unfortunately, my hubby doesn’t like to travel, so the big trips with him and the kids have been to neighboring states to see family. However, when I was younger my parents packed me and my five siblings in a station wagon, pulled a camper behind, and over the years we traveled to over 46 states and Canada. I loved the trips through the Rockies the best.

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi C-Jay!

That sounds like an amazing adventure! I think it’s great that your intrepid parents gave you (and your siblings) the opportunity to see so much of our country when you were a kid! Thank you for sharing your childhood memories with me!

      Happy 2014!

  9. Michelle Major says:

Hi Joanna – What a fun trip. It’s always been an odd little dream of mine to fly first class – someday! My best vacation is still my honeymoon to Hawaii – something about just having time alone to relax w/my hubby after all the wedding preparation and celebration stuff was so lovely. Everything about it was perfect. :-)

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Michelle!

I would love to go to Hawaii with my husband. Unfortunately, unless the RWA or ASHA (association for SLPs) decide to hold conventions there, it’s gonna be a long time coming! San Antonio wasn’t necessarily on my top ten list of travel destinations, but that’s the next stop! Looking forward to seeing you at the next RWA! Thank you for your post!

  10. Summer says:

One of my favorite vacations ever was to Los Angeles. We went to a taping of Friends. It was amazing to see them put together that show in person, the way the actors and writers punched up the script on the fly, making it even funnier. Plus, they handed out free pizza, and free pizza always makes for a great vacation:)

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Summer!

Thank you for you comment! That trip sounds like a blast! I’ve always wanted to go to a taping of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Hopefully, one day I will. And, anything with free pizza? Count me in!

      Happy 2014!

  11. Ada says:

I don’t travel much but one year I was lucky enough to get to go to Australia and as a side trip, we went down to Fiji for a week. It was amazing, all the lush views. I honestly thought those postcards stuff were just pretty pictures but to see the blue skies and even bluer waters for myself….amazing!

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Ada!

Australia is on my top ten list of places I want to see (along with New Zealand). And, Fiji sounds like paradise on Earth! I always thought Tahiti was a place I’d like to visit, but after your description, I think I’ll have to look into Fiji! I appreciate your post!

      Happy 2014!

  12. Linda Henderson says:

My best vacation was going to Eureka Springs Arkansas for my daughter’s wedding. We had a great time and a beautiful wedding.

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Linda!

Now I have to look up Eureka Springs, because I love the name! My grandmother used to lead fishing expeditions in Arkansas and my mom learned how to sing gospel in little churches tucked away in the Arkansas mountains. Your post reminded me of that…thank you.

      Happy 2014!

      Joanna

  13. Anita H. says:

I don’t get to travel but if I ever got the chance, I would love to visit Paris and take in all the sights and the culture. Paris has always topped my list of places to soak in :)

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Anita!

I agree – Paris would be a wonderful place to visit. Just to be able to visit some of those iconic spots like the Eiffel Tower would be an opportunity of a lifetime. I hope you get there! Thank you for sharing your dream destination with me.

      Happy 2014!

  14. Lilian Darcy says:

Sometimes my best vacations are in books. I know, a cliche, but honestly, the value of that escape on a bad day…

Some luscious real life vacations here, though.

    • Joanna Sims says:

      Hi Lilian!

I agree…I was an avid reader when I was a kid and enjoyed being drawn into a different time or place. It was a great adventure and (sometimes) a great escape. Thank you for your post!

      Happy 2014!
